‘Movie Review of ‘Khushi’

Director Shiva Nirvana portrayed the story of a married woman and her former lover in his debut film ‘Ninnu Kori.’ Similarly, in ‘Majili,’ he told the tale of a broken heart that is so entangled with its past that it cannot see the happiness right in front of it. Now, in ‘Khushi,’ he brings the story of a couple who find what they desire, but they realize that they may not be ready for it.

Viplav (Vijay Deverakonda) is a BSNL employee who aspires to be posted in Kashmir. He wants to live in the world of his daydreams, with snow-covered mountains, beautiful places, A.R. Rahman’s music, and romance. However, when he finally arrives there, he faces reality. One day, he meets Aaradhya (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) on the way, and he falls head over heels for her. Viplav doesn’t care about who the girl is, where she’s from; all he hopes is that his love will one day win her over. And that’s exactly what happens. But that’s where the story takes a turn.

Viplav’s father Lenin Satyam (Sachin Khedekar) is a well-known atheist, while Aaradhya is the daughter of staunch traditionalist Chandrangam Srinivas Rao (Murali Sharma), who happens to be Lenin’s arch-enemy. Now, the couple believes that their love, with its different upbringing, their feuding families, and even the heartbreaks they’ve caused in the past, can withstand anything. But is love alone enough to sustain a relationship?

‘Khushi’ is, for the most part, a good and feel-good movie. Hesham Abdul Wahab’s music adds to the overall feel of the film. However, when you look beyond all this, it’s not a love story that stands out from the leaks. Nevertheless, Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu have done their jobs exceptionally well. This makes you care about what’s happening with them. Their chemistry feels effortless, even in the scenes where they can’t stand each other. Vijay Deverakonda truly enjoys his role as Viplav, portraying a childlike persona. Samantha, in her role as Aaradhya, is a girl who just wants to be happy. Vijay Deverakonda leaves his mark in action scenes as well as in comedy.

The director, Shiv, has tried to keep the film quite simple, which is why he couldn’t delve deep into something that could have been more profound in the hearts of Viplav and Aaradhya. Viplav doesn’t take anything too seriously, and we never really get to see how Aaradhya feels. When the cracks start to appear in their relationship, it doesn’t even occur to us that maybe they don’t know each other well enough. The characters of Rohini and Jayaram also seem a bit foolish.

‘Khushi’ rather than being written as an odd kind of comedy, would have benefited more from a focus on its editing. Nevertheless, the climax is well put together.

Why should you watch it? ‘Khushi’ is a film that, despite its flaws and difficult parts, will entertain you. Love conquers all, and that’s the biggest message of all. It’s a message we should all take to heart.
