Nana Patekar on ‘Jawan’: Nana Patekar spoke about Shah Rukh Khan’s hit movie ‘Jawan’ and his role in ‘Nepotism’.
During the trailer launch event of the upcoming movie ‘The Vaccine War,’ in which Nana Patekar plays a significant role, a journalist asked him whether there is still a difference between parallel and commercial cinema, given the current content landscape. Nana Patekar replied in his characteristic style.
He said, “First of all, the difference that used to exist between these two (parallel and commercial cinema) doesn’t exist anymore. After the advent of OTT platforms, every film of ours has found a platform. With a larger audience, more revenue comes our way. That’s why the condition of parallel cinema is stable. What do you think… now any kind of film can become a hit.”
Regarding the title ‘Jawan,‘ Nana Patekar continued, “I used to watch many hit films in the past. I never aspired to act in those films. I didn’t have the desire to watch those films. But such films are doing well. All kinds of films, all kinds of content are being showcased now. It depends on what you like. Now, it doesn’t matter whether you take the name of a film or not; people have the ability to watch the content they prefer.”
Nana Patekar also shared his views on nepotism, saying, “Now I am an actor. If my son wants to become an actor tomorrow, he will either succeed or fail. But you will be the ones to judge him. One film may fail, then two more, and then maybe ten more will succeed. After that, you will decide whether he is worth it or not. Such films are available today, and you have the option to choose. Films like ‘The Vaccine War’ provide a different perspective. There is a difference between the two.”
Nana Patekar had earlier played a significant role in Uday Shetty’s character in ‘Welcome.’ He was also seen in ‘Welcome 2,’ but he has not been cast in the French sequel ‘Welcome to the Jungle.’ During the trailer launch of ‘The Vaccine War,’ when asked about this, Nana Patekar said, “To make a film as difficult as this one is more challenging than anything else. Those who do such work deserve a salute.”
Regarding not being cast, he added, “They might think I’ve become a philosopher, maybe that’s why they haven’t approached me. But everyone gets work; whether you want to work with them or not is your decision.”
In conclusion, Nana Patekar expressed, “They (the new generation) think I have become a philosopher, maybe that’s why they haven’t approached me. But everyone gets work; it depends on whether you want to take it or not.”
