C Voter Survey on India-Bharat Name: C Voter has conducted a special nationwide survey on the controversy surrounding the name ‘India vs. Bharat’. In this survey, a total of 3,350 people participated and shared their opinions on this issue. Today, everyone has the same question in mind: Is the country’s name going to change, and is it necessary to choose one name between India and Bharat? Let’s find out what people think about this.

According to the C Voter survey, 42 percent of respondents believe that the word ‘India’ should not be removed from the constitution. Meanwhile, 44 percent believe that the word ‘India’ should be removed. It’s worth noting that the Indian constitution adopted in January 1950 officially identifies the country as “India that is Bharat…”

What percentage of people are in favor of which?

In the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a united opposition coalition, claiming to be supporters of the ‘India Group,’ has the majority of respondents in favor of retaining the use of the word ‘India’ in the original constitution. In contrast, nearly 56 percent of respondents who identify themselves as supporters of the ruling NDA want the word ‘India’ to be removed.

This controversy first flared up when the President of India used the word ‘Bharat’ in an invitation for a banquet and dinner during the G20 Summit held in Delhi. Instead of “Republic of India,” it read “Republic of Bharat.”

Dispute Escalated After ASEAN Meeting

Traditionally, the word ‘Bharat’ is used in such invitations. The opposition parties’ ‘India’ bloc has accused the NDA of politicizing the name ‘Bharat’ to divert attention from critical issues. They argue that the current government is troubled by the growing opposition unity.

The controversy intensified when Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official travel program during his trip to Indonesia for the ASEAN meeting mentioned him as the ‘Prime Minister of India.’
